DGC · NGO — Since 1991
The Classic Live for the United Nations (DGC·NGO) is a Japanese non-profit organisation founded in April 1991 and incorporated as an NPO under the Cabinet Office in December 2000. In 2017 it was recognised as a DGC·NGO associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications.
We produce stage works — musical plays, operas and chamber concerts — around two themes: the dignity of life and the environment. Our flagship programme, the Concert of Life, brings professional actors, a live chamber orchestra and children selected by open audition onto the same stage.
First staged with the Yomiuri Shimbun, the production has now passed its 35th year and more than 200 performances, most recently at Tokyo International Forum Hall C with a full live orchestra.
Based on the Earth Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals, works such as Our Blue Planet and A Night on the Galactic Railroad ask young audiences a single question: whose planet is this?
A narrated chamber-music series retelling the lives of composers. The latest programme is My Mozart.
